Kindness and Respect Are at HOME at PS 217

“Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” – Mark Twain

February is National Random Acts of Kindness Month. It is the perfect opportunity to discuss with your children what respect, kindness, compassion or empathy are and how these should be the norm in everyone’s life. If you are walking the hallways of our school these days you can see wonderful and powerful posters encouraging kindness and positive behavior. Challenge your children in a discussion about the Kindness Campaign in our school this month and you will be amazed to find out about the many ways respect and kindness are reinforced on a daily basis. Encourage them to share with you and with their class moments when someone was kind to them as well as when they were displayed an act of kindness.

Even better, Random Acts of Kindness Week 2020 kicks off on Tuesday, February 11, 2020 and ends on February 17, 2020. Seven heart-warming days when you can make it your family mission to brighten someone else’s day by doing something kind for no specific reason. Small actions can make the world a better place.

Overlapping with Random Acts of Kindness Week, February 10 – 14, 2020 is Respect for All (RFA) Week in all NYC public schools. A safe and supportive school, free from any type of bullying and discrimination is what we have and want to maintain here at PS 217. Everyone is committed to have kindness and respect be part of our daily routine. To reinforce these values, PS 217 Student council is challenging the whole school community to observe each day of the Respect for All Week in a different fun way:

Monday, 2/10: Favorite Sports Team Gear

Tuesday, 2/11: Crazy Sock Day

Wednesday, 2/12: Crazy Hat Day

Thursday, 2/13: Inside Out Day

Friday, 2/14: 100th Day of School – dress like you are 100 years old – what a respectful age! Or you can choose to wear RED for love. This is also No One Eats Alone Day!
