Aladdin, A note from Mr. DiBlasi.PS 217 of Brooklyn
This spring, PS 217 was proud to present Disney’s Aladdin, Jr. Beginning in October, students and faculty began preparing, rehearsing, and designing the production. Over a dozen teachers and over 50 students came together to produce the show, including actors under the direction of Mr. DiBlasi and Ms. Scionti, singers and dancers under the direction of Ms. Sorrentino, Ms. Polonsky, Ms. Carrecia, and Ms. Grisar, and theatre artists under the direction of Ms. Aalbue. Aladdin would not have been possible without the help of community members Madame J (costume design), Ken (sound design), and Matthew Septimus (photography), and student teachers Bill Weimer (light design) and Elyse Lewis (stage crew). The PS 217 family is incredibly grateful to Ms. Conti and the administration for their support on Aladdin and their ongoing dedication to the arts. Through the musical, students engaged with the play’s theme of being true to yourself as well as Aladdin’s setting in the Middle East. The actors, singers, dancers, and artists brought the story to life with much enthusiasm while developing new skills in the creative arts!
