PS 217 Summer Activity Fair

Wondering what to do with your kids during summer break this year?

Join us Wednesday, January 23 between 5-7PM at the annual PS 217 Summer Activity Fair, presented by the PS 217 Parent Association. Meet staff from local summer programs, learn about and sign up for many different types of activities.

FREE and open to all! Many programs offer low-cost and free opportunities.

Winter Jam in Central Park         Saturday, 01/26/2019  11 AM – 3 PM

Presented by NYC Parks, Lake Placid, I Love NY, and Ski Areas of New York, Winter Jam NYC is a free winter sports festival for New Yorkers of all ages! Whether the rest of the City will have it or not, there will be plenty of fresh snow in the heart of Manhattan.
All ages and skill levels are welcome on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Bandshell Area of Central Park (entrance at 72nd Street). Rain Date: February 2, 2019.
Venues and Activities include:

  • Lake Placid Snow Field
  • Learn to Ski and Snowboard
  • Sledding Hill
  • Arctic Golf
  • Live Ice Carving
  • Ice Sculpture Garden

Penny Drive Fundraiser – Thank You!

The Parents Association of PS 217 would like to thank to ALL of our classes participating in our second annual Penny Drive! With all classes participating, we raised important funds that will benefit our children! The top three classes were 2-304, 1-211 and 2-408. These classes will be receiving ice cream parties. And to show our appreciation to everyone who participated, homework passes have been distributed for ALL students.

Winter Break Reminder and Things to Do!

Please remember that all public schools are closed for Winter Break starting on Monday, December 24. School resumes on Wednesday, January 2.

Looking for fun activities to do with your children during the break? Why not go on and adventure and explore one or more of the wonderful museums New York City has to offer. Our pick: take a trip all the way to 1220 Fifth Ave at 103rd St. and visit Museum of the City of New York (open daily 10am–6pm) for some fun family seasonal activities like: Ornament Making (December 24, 11AM), Kwanzaa Family Celebration (December 26, 11 AM), Winter Scene Painting (December 27, 11AM), Make a Snow Globe (December 28, 11AM). Picture Day Retake is Friday, January 18, 2019

If your child did not have his picture taken on Picture Day, don’t worry, the picture make-up day is coming up on Friday, January 18, 2019. Keep it in mind and be ready for that day!

Cool Culture Family Passes are Here!

Don’t let the cold weather interfere with your plans for fun quality family time outside your home! Through its museums and various cultural institutions, our vibrant city offers numerous opportunities for families to engage in activities that contribute to young children’s cognitive and language development while cultivating new audiences for the arts. Cool Culture can help your family create invaluable memories. Come pick up your family’s Cool Culture Family Pass in Room 109. ID is required in order to pick it up. Is your Family Pass not printed yet? Did you forget to apply? It is not too late yet! Last day to submit an application for a Cool Culture Family Pass is Tuesday, January 15th. Applications are available in Room 109. Come ask as well about the Loaner Passes and how your family can benefit from it.

As you are using your card, feel free to send us your “Cool pictures” and impressions! We want to Pictures can be sent to LDubovici@schools.nyc.gov. Keep track of your visits with pictures, drawings, tickets and feel free to share them with us. We would love to hear about your Cool Culture experience.

Kindergarten Application

All current Pre-K students (born in 2014) need to apply to Kindergarten to secure a seat for the 2019-2020 school year. You can apply to Kindergarten until January 14, 2018 in one of the three ways:

  • Online with MySchools in one of the DOE ten languages
  • Over the phone by calling 718-935-2009, Mo-Fri 8am – 6pm
  • In person at a Family Welcome Center. District 22 Family Welcome Center is located at 1780 Ocean Avenue, 3rd Floor, Brooklyn 11230

Interpretation services are available in over 200 languages for the over-the-phone and in-person options.

P.S. 217 Open House for Incoming Kindergarten Families – January 8, 2019 @ 8:30 AM

On Tuesday, January 8 at 8:30 AM, P.S. 217 will host an Open House event for incoming Kindergarten families! Let your neighbors and friends know about our terrific school and encourage them to come visit us. They can witness our current students during their regular day, meet teachers, staff and administration,  visit the Auditorium, the Cafeteria, the Library, the Gym, learn about our vibrant school garden and the wonderful events that take place there, find out about the many ways engaged parents get involved and support their children and the school.
