Community Garden at East 8th St & Newkirk Ave

A block away from PS 217, on East 8th and Newkirk Ave (former site of Compost for Brooklyn) there is a green oasis overseen and maintained by various neighborhood volunteers. While the organizational operator is PAYS (Pakistani American Youth Society) at 1001 Newkirk Ave, a group of neighbors have been cleaning it up and opened it this spring. They have reached out to us and are inviting all the PS 217 families to join their efforts and play an active role in developing this green area for the community. The garden will be open on the following days:

Saturday, May 11, 10am to 2pm – Open Hours – two raised beds will need to be filled with soil and then some seedlings will have to be planted in.

Sunday, May 19 , 12pm to 2pm – Open Hours – details TBD

For those who would like to access the garden more regularly and host garden hours themselves there will be a training at the end of the month, on Monday, May 27, 12pm to 3pm. Additional training sessions can be arranged for those unable to attend the May 27th one.
