DADS Take Your Child to School Day – 9/20/2016 7:45-9:00 am

P.S. 217 is proudly joining the numerous schools, Head Start and Child Care programs throughout New York State in celebrating fathers, step fathers, grandfathers, uncles, big brothers, big cousins and other fatherly figures who have a positive impact on our children lives. Celebrated annually for over 10 years at the beginning of each school year, this event aims to get more fathers involved in their children’s schools, so that kids will be motivated to do better.img_1138

On the morning of Tuesday, September 20, 2016 we encourage all fathers and father figures in our students’ lives to bring their children to school. You will be welcomed by P.S. 217 staff members who (with your permission) will take a picture of you and your child. Pictures will be displayed during Meet the Teachers night on September 22. After dropping off your child, you are invited in the school garden for light refreshments and socializing.
While we do encourage mothers to come as well, this event is geared toward dads because they are the ones who traditionally don’t take much part in their child’s school life. Research has shown that children who have involved fathers have a higher performance at school, as well as improved behavior and social skills.

With your participation and cooperation we aim at offering more father geared events during this school year. Please feel free to let us know what interests you, what you would like to see happen in our school and how we can meet your expectations.
