Wildlife Ecology at the Staten Island Zoo

Open to students entering Grades 3, 4 and 5
August 11-August 15, 2014
Campers will be immersed in the work of a wildlife ecologist (conservation biologist) during this five-day camp. Campers will learn and use concepts on conservation and sustainability to build confidence and create an understanding of the natural world – to become “ecosystem experts.”  For more information and to register, click here.

Junior Zoo Scientist Program at the Queens Zoo

Open to students entering Grade 5
July 28-August 1, 2014
Campers will learn how science, technology, engineering and math help the Queens Zoo to build exhibits, care for their wildlife collection, and teach their visitors.  Each day participants will be immersed in a variety of hands-on learning experiences that will help them explore ecology, biology, nutrition, animal behavior and exhibit design. World of Enzymes Camp at the Harlem DNA Lab

Open to students entering Grade 8 and Fun with DNA Camp alumni students entering Grade 7
July 21-July 25, 2014
Campers will build molecular models; observe enzymes in action that are used for food production and healthcare; use enzymes to cut and splice DNA; analyze DNA fragments with gel electrophoresis; and make a personal DNA fingerprint. For more information and to register, click here.

Green Genes Camp at the Harlem DNA Lab

Open to World of Enzymes Camp alumni students entering Grade 8
July 28-August 1, 2014
Campers will use enzymes to cut and paste genes to form a functional plasmid; analyze results with gel electrophoresis; genetically engineer bacteria to produce a visible protein; use polymerase chain reaction to amplify DNA fragments; and isolate and purify Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) using chromatography. For more information and to register, click here.

Junior Oceanographer Program at the New York Aquarium

Open to students entering Grades 6, 7 and 8
July 21-July 25, 2014
Through hands-on activities, animal observations, and discussions with professionals, campers will focus on Biomimicry as it pertains to marine science and conservation. Campers will develop hypotheses, create an experimental design, collect and visualize data using cameras and other digital devices and applications. For more information and to register, click here.
