Calling All Brooklyn Summer Readers!

Summer is a great time to read what you like, to learn new things, and have fun with friends – and it is a critical skill that we must encourage our children to keep up all summer long. Find free programs and events for all ages throughout the summer on at the various branches of the Brooklyn Public Libraries. Here are some ways to keep your kids engaged in reading this summer:

  • Declare your children Summer Readers at the local library and online atsummerreading.org.
  • Join the party on June 8! Brooklyn’s Summer Reading Kickoff is Thursday, June 8th (a day the children are off school any way!) at Central Library Plaza from 10:30 AM – 3:00 PM. Sign up the whole family for Summer Reading, and join a free family celebration with live music and superhero challenges. This year, the Plaza will be transformed into a maker space with projects for all ages! (In case of rain or extreme weather conditions, this event will be held indoors in the Youth Wing, Dweck Center and Lobby.)

If you can’t make it to the Central Library, all local branches will host Summer Reading events Thursday, June 8.

Cortelyou Branch Library will be hosting free, fun activities and entertainment, snacks and gifts both outside and inside on Thursday, June 8, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 pm.

  • There will be a special sing-along with Hopalong Andrew at 2 pm! He adapts classic cowboy songs to reflect city life for urban cow folks!
  • Explore a guided building activity and learn about Summer Library Lab series that explores STEM activities through hands-on activities for children ages 6-10.
  • Join and sign up for Summer Reading and learn about how you can all Build a Better World this summer!

Free popcorn will also be available!
