Update from the Community Engagement Committee of the Parents Association

Parent Workshop Survey:  Thanks to everyone who spent time completing the Parent Workshop surveys last month. We love hearing from you! The top 3 workshop topic requests were: Healthy Living, Exploring Creativity and Job Readiness. Check back in upcoming 411s for workshop announcements!

More Vegetables:  Last week, members of the Parents Association, P.S. 217 school administration, the Department of Education and city-wide school food staff members met to discuss adding vegetarian options to our kids’ school menu. We will keep you updated on our progress.

Looking for 5 Parent Outreach Volunteers: We are looking for 5 parents who speak English and one of the following 5 languages that families speak in our school (Arabic, Bengali, Urdu, Russian, Spanish) to partner with the Parents Association to:

  • Attend school-wide Parents Association events and planning meetings
  • Spread the word about Parents Association projects and events
  • Work with families in the school to understand their questions, concerns and interests
  • Conduct in-person and phone outreach to PS 217 parents who haven’t been involved with the Parents Association to increase their participation
  • Share feedback from families with the Parents Association to help us work with all families better

The volunteer position runs until the end of the school year in June!

If you are interested, please come to the next meeting of the Community Engagement Committee on Friday, March 20 at 8:15 AM in the Parent Coordinator’s office (Room 108).
