Welcome to the Library!

Dear Families,

Last June, all P.S. 217 students received a New York City Public Library student card, which enabled them to borrow books in every borough of the city. They were all encouraged to read over the summer and to keep a reading log of the titles they completed. The Parents’ Association generously provided funds for the purchase of summer reading prizes to distribute this fall. Please send completed reading logs to school with your children during the first few weeks of school; prizes will be awarded during the month of September only.

The Family Reading Program will begin soon (dtbd). Adult family members are encouraged to accompany youngsters to the school library (Room 307) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays between 8:10 am and 8:40 am to borrow books, use the computers, and earn stickers other reading incentives. Students are expected to read at home every night; this is a great way to provide high interest, appropriate-leveled books for home use. Each child can borrow 5 books at a time for a 2-week period. Parents whose children attend extended day may come to the library without them, but no child will be admitted without an adult.

Once again, we are partnering with Brooklyn Public Library to provide our students with author/illustrator programs throughout the semester. It promises to be an exciting school year! I look forward to seeing you at the library!
