January 27-February 15 Promotion in Doubt Letters:  The Promotion in Doubt (PID) process allows schools to formally notify families, in writing, that their child is at risk of not meeting promotion standards and may be retained in the same grade for the next school year. In late-January, schools identify which students are at risk of not meeting promotion benchmarks. Schools must designate these students as promotion in doubt and identify the subject area(s) in which students are not approaching promotion benchmarks. PID letters reflect students’ grade ranges and promotion criteria. Schools will print and mail the PID letters to families by February 15. The mid-year PID notification enables the school and the student’s family to plan for the necessary supports and interventions to help the student meet promotion benchmarks by June. The PID process applies to all students in kindergarten through twelfth grade.

High School Admissions:  In March, all New York City students will get a high school offer letter. This letter will include your high school offer and/or, if applicable, results from the specialized high schools admissions process, which may include a specialized high school offer or offers. Whenever possible, students will get an offer to the highest possible choice from their high school application. We’ve made a few updates to the high school admissions process. This update will not change how you apply to high school, how you get an offer or where you get an offer.

School Leadership Teams:  School Leadership Teams (SLTs) are school-based organizations composed of an equal number of parents and staff. They meet at least once a month, and determine the structure for school-based planning and shared decision-making. The core responsibility of each SLT is to develop the school’s Comprehensive Educational Plan (CEP) that is aligned with the school-based budget. CEP’s are can be viewed here. SLTs are strongly encouraged to solicit input from various school community constituencies in order to ensure that all voices are heard regarding the needs of students. Functioning in a collaborative manner, SLTs also help to evaluate the effectiveness of the school’s educational programs and their impact on student achievement. SLTs receive support and guidance as needed from their District Leadership Teams. SLT meetings must be open to the general public and comply with the requirements of the Open Meetings Law, including public notice of the meetings. Interested in in learning more or joining your school’s School Leadership Team? Speak with your Parent Coordinator or your PA/PTA President.
