Parent Teacher Conferences – Thursday, March 19

A final reminder that Thursday, March 19 are parent teacher conferences! All students grade K-5 will be dismissed at 11:20 am. There will be no school for Pre-K AM students. The PM Pre-K will begin school at 8 am and will be dismissed at 10:30 am.

There will be two conference sessions from which to choose. The afternoon session is between 12:20 – 2:20 pm. The evening session is from 4:30 – 7:30 pm. Because there are so many children, your time is limited with the teacher to only about 10 minutes. If you feel that you need to spend more time discussing your child with your teacher, please make a separate appointment. Our teachers are looking forward to meeting with all our parents and we hope you’ll find it a fruitful discussion as well.

Here are some suggestions for what to ask your teachers:

  • Does my child participate in class discussions and activities?
  • Is my child happy in school and getting along with classmates?
  • How can I support your efforts in the classroom to help my child be successful?
  • Is my child working to his ability?
  • How is my child doing with homework?
  • How much time should my child be spending on his homework?
  • Do you grade homework assignments?
  • What are my child’s strengths and weaknesses?
  • What can we do to help develop our child’s weak areas?
  • What are my child’s academic talents?
  • What is my child’s learning style?
  • Is there anything that I can share with you about my child and what he’s like at home?
  • What skills will my child be expected to master this year in key areas like math, reading, writing, science, social studies?
  • Which, if any, standardized tests will be administered this year?
  • What is my child’s reading level and what kind of books would be most appropriate?

Before you leave the meeting …

  • make sure you have mentioned any changes in the home that may affect your child’s performance;
  • have a plan to address concerns;
  • know the best way to contact your child’s teacher;
  • make sure your child’s teacher knows the best way to contact you;
  • update the blue card if changes occurred since you last filled it out;

When you get home …

  • talk to your child, inform him/her about what you learned;
  • discuss how you will both work to enhance his/her school performance;
  • fill out the Learning Environment Survey either online or in printed form;

Learning Environment Survey will be handed out during Parent Teacher Conferences. Your voice is important and we need every parent/guardian to fill out and return the survey. Help with the survey completion and translation will be available throughout the school. Please take a few minutes and voice out your opinion. All surveys are strictly confidential. If you have more children in the school you only need to fill out one survey. Every student whose parent completes the survey will receive a one “ONE DAY HOMEWORK PASS”. Please complete the survey as soon as possible and return it in the sealed envelope to your child’s homeroom teacher. As an alternative, you can complete it online and send in the confirmation receipt with your child.

Your participation and input is important so that we can continue providing the best education possible for your child!
