As you know, PS 217 is observing for the first time ever November as National Family Literacy Month.
Immense gratitude goes towards the 45 volunteers – parents, grandparents, cousins, neighbors etc – who helped us celebrate National Family Literacy Day by giving the gift of reading aloud to our students. Read alouds are a fun way to spark children’s imagination and to encourage them to expand their horizon when it comes to choosing a book. From infancy to high school age, it’s never too early or too late to read with and to your child.
To end the month in a festive mood we are planning a big family reading event on Thursday, November 30th, 6:00 – 7:30 pm in the PS 217 Gym. How does it sound to bring your family to school perhaps in pajama, with a blanket, a cuddly pillow and / or a stuffed animal and of course one or more good books to read together? If not sure, how about we throw in:
- a Book Swap,
- public library resources from Kensington, Cortelyou and Midwood Public Library Branches,
- a Wild West Book Fair and
- last but not least … milk and cookies?
We know you cannot say no to this mix! Therefore:
